5 Tips to Stay Warm and Healthy in Winter!

The cold weather is slowly creeping up and our natural instinct is to get cozy on the couch with high calorie foods. But don’t succumb to full hibernation just yet!! Instead, reduce stress and SLOW DOWN your standard operations. Winter is a season of calm, contemplation, stillness and we must do our best to reflect nature inside ourselves.
Here’s what you can do:
- Dress warm, go outside! It is so important to get some fresh air and try to enjoy the colder months. Keep that body moving, maintaining healthy body weight and good moods with moderate exercise.
- Outside, without a doubt, wear a scarf and cover your ears. The body’s defense system depends on it. The neck is an entryway for many external factors which lead to ailments such as colds. The ears are very sensitive to wind. Even hot winds can wreck havoc and lead to other issues affecting the head. Over time, ears become painful, get blocked or develop tinnitus (ringing).
- Include ginger, lemon, honey, cinnamon, garlic, onions in everything. They are warming foods and great for circulation, enjoy them with oats, rice, sweet potato, squash. Also cloves, chili, licorice, mussels, lamb are good in less amounts.
- Drink plenty of hot fluids and cooked foods. In order to keep our digestive burning nicely, it is ideal in winter to eat more warm cooked foods. Avoid cold drinks and food, as well as raw dishes (or at least, keep them to a minimum). Cold foods and drinks slow down the metabolism making us tired and prone to weight gain.
- Avoid inflammatory foods: sugar, coffee, alcohol, dairy, tobacco, and red meat- your muscles and skin will thank you feeling plump and moist, doing this will also reduce aching joints and fatigue.
And … you can always count on us to help & guide you through these lower temps and darker days.
